Transport for the North and the Department for Transport, acting through The Rail North Partnership, have agreed a plan with Northern in response to the current performance issues.
A spokesperson for Transport for the North said:
“Transport for the North is extremely disappointed and concerned with the inadequate performance of Northern. We have formally raised these concerns with Northern making it clear that we want more to be done to rectify the performance issues and to mitigate against impacts on passengers and for action to be taken immediately.
New rail timetables will come into force for rail users across the UK on Sunday 20 May 2018 and, in the North of England, the changes will be some of the biggest seen for decades.
Funding for vital road improvements in the East Riding of Yorkshire which are within Transport for the North’s Central Pennines Strategic Development Corridor has been confirmed today.

The North’s most famous railway city was selected as the launch venue for a major new announcement on the future of the railways yesterday (10th May) when the Secretary of State for Transport, the Rt Hon Chris Grayling MP, and Network Rail’s Chief Executive Mark Carne chose York to announce plans to make Britain’s railways ‘digital’. They launched Network Rail’s Digital Railway Strategy and committed to ensuring all new trains and signalling are digital or digital ready from 2019.
