Cheshire East | Transport for the North

Cheshire East is a spectacular, ancient region with giant glacier boulders and where cheese lovers can taste one of the oldest made in Britain, Cheshire Cheese. With historic links to the industrial revolution, the borough council brings together Macclesfield, Congleton and Crewe and Nantwich.

Planned Transport Investment for Cheshire East

We are promoting the investment of £90 million to ease congestion and improve air quality in Congleton, £51 million to connect the A523 south of Poynton to the new A6 Manchester Airport Relief Road, and £58 million for the Middlewich Eastern Bypass scheme, enabling the growth of jobs and homes, as well as relieving traffic congestion in the town centre.

There is a 30-tonne granite boulder in Macclesfield’s West Park which is a glacial erratic, carried there by advancing glaciers around 12,500 years ago.
Crewe was once home to Rolls-Royce. The factory now produces Bentleys.
The village of Willaston is home to the World Worm Charming Championships. The current record was set in 2-009 when a 10-year-old called Sophie Smith raised 567 worms.
You can visit a secret nuclear bunker near Nantwich. Hack Green came into operation in 1984, and today you can see military memorabilia and experience what it would have been like during a nuclear attack.
Cheshire Cheese was recorded in the Domesday Book, making it the oldest named British cheese.
