Our Board, Scrutiny, Audit & Governance, Rail North and General Purposes Committee meetings are all public meetings. Members of the public and press can attend these meetings in person or watch them live online if they are live streamed. Sometimes where there are legal reasons to do so, items will be taken at the end of the meeting in private session. When this happens, members of the public and press will be asked to leave the meeting after the public items are concluded.

All Transport for the North Board and Committee meetings are usually either webcast live or recorded and posted on our website to support our principles of openness and transparency and to make our meetings accessible for all to see due to the large geographical area that we cover.

Full calendarThe Transport for the North Board will meet four times per year, but additional meetings may take place should the need arise.
All Members are entitled to attend meetings of the Transport for the North Board, and if they are unable to attend, their nominated substitute Member may attend in their place.
Each of the Constituent Authorities appoints one of its elected Members to be a Member of the Transport for the North Board.
The Member appointed must be in the case of a Constituent Authority that has an elected Mayor, the Mayor or the elected Member with responsibility for transport and in any other case the Leader, the Chair or the elected Member with responsibility for transport.
All committee meetings are open to the public (including the press) except for when there is a private item on the agenda that needs to be discussed in private session.to the extent that they are excluded whether during the whole or part of the proceedings.

As at January 2025, Our Board is made up of elected Members from 19 constituent authorities, 4 Rail North authorities from outside of the Transport for the North area as well as business representatives and our delivery partners. The Scrutiny Committee has been established to scrutinise proposals prior to them being discussed and approved by the Transport for the North Board. Members can investigate matters of strategic importance to residents, those travelling within the combined administrative areas, and other stakeholders. The Rail North Committee considers and advises the Transport for the North Board on all matters relating to rail franchise and contract management in the Rail North area. The link below allows access to meetings from June 2020 to the present.
The Audit and Governance Committee is comprised of six elected Members from our constituent authorities and four independent members. The Committee is a key component of corporate governance providing an independent, high-level focus on the audit, assurance and reporting framework underpinning financial management and governance arrangements.
