Transport for the North has been working in collaboration with Leeds City Council and partners, including West Yorkshire Combined Authority, HS2 and Network Rail, to set out principles for the blueprint of Leeds Integrated Station Masterplan.
New images of how the remodelled Leeds station could look were released yesterday (Monday 6 November) as part of the Masterplan, which provides a blueprint for the station’s ambitious transformation. The proposed internationally significant gateway hub would integrate national, regional and local transport services with HS2 and Northern Powerhouse Rail.
John Cridland, Chair of Transport for the North, said:
“Working closely with our partners in the development of Leeds Integrated Station Masterplan has provided us with a unique opportunity to ensure that Leeds City Region is well-connected within the North. It’s vital that the future Northern Powerhouse Rail programme, as well as future local rail services, are reflected in the plans for HS2 infrastructure investment. With this station masterplan we are taking the first step towards creating a truly integrated transport hub, combining local, regional and high speed rail services, including our transformational Northern Powerhouse Rail programme.
“Northern Powerhouse Rail will provide faster and more frequent connections between Leeds and other major hubs in the North, transforming connectivity. Creating a shared vision for the future of Leeds station ensures that Leeds and the wider city region will get the most out of this major infrastructure investment, creating a fitting gateway for the vibrant city and providing a catalyst for future growth.”
Leeds station is currently used by 100,000 people a day, and is proposed to become a ‘major national landmark’, with new entrances, a new integrated concourse, additional platforms, and new retail and leisure spaces in the surrounding area.

Further public and stakeholder consultation will now take place on the masterplan released today, with the Leeds Station plans forming part of a six week consultation beginning on Wednesday 8th November on the plans for the South Bank. The Leeds Station Integrated Masterplan is available here and a number of events will be hosted in Leeds Station over coming weeks where people can help shape the future of these proposals. A questionnaire will also go live on Wednesday on the proposals.
