Industry experts join #TfNTalks to discuss regional plan for near-zero surface transport emissions by 2045.
Transport for the North (TfN) is hosting a free #TfNTalks webinar next week, showcasing its regional Transport Decarbonisation Strategy and how it can be put into action.
The strategy, published in December 2021, sets out an ambitious goal of near-zero carbon emissions from surface transport in the North of England by 2045.
It is the first time a regional document of this type has been produced and brings the region’s leaders together on the actions needed to tackle climate change.
The webinar will hear from Northern leaders and industry experts who will discuss the strategy and associated action plan, and showcase what can be done now to set the region on the pathway to decarbonisation.
The session will be Chaired by Lucy Winskell OBE, Chair of the North East LEP, with Panellists including:
Peter Cole, TfN’s Principal Environmental and Sustainability Officer, said: “Transport for the North and our Members are clear that moving towards a zero-carbon transport network must be at the heart of public policy-making and considered as part of strategic transport planning and investment.
“Our ambition for the North of England, as set out in our Transport Decarbonisation Strategy, is to travel faster and further than national policy and maximise the clean growth opportunities that decarbonisation can provide.
“A key part of our strategy is the action plan, showing the things TfN can do to supercharge transport decarbonisation in the North. The policy recommendations and activities laid out will help us support our partners and other organisations across the region to contribute to our ambitious decarbonisation goal.
“Together we can tackle climate change on a regional scale and create a sustainable transport network that is fit for the future.”
#TfNTalks: How can we turn our Transport Decarbonisation Strategy into action, takes place on Wednesday 23 February at 1pm.
