It has today been confirmed that rail operator Northern will launch a service Recovery Plan. This will involve an interim timetable being implemented from Monday 4 June 2018.
The plan involves targeted reduction of rail services and the use of bus replacement services, including the temporary suspension of all rail services on the Lakes Line to be replaced by bus for an initial period of two weeks.
Passengers have experienced sustained disruption to services and Northern states that the measures will start to restore stability and reduce last-minute cancellations.
Even with the reduced service Northern will still be running more rail services overall than before the introduction of a new timetable on 20 May 2018.
Barry White, the Chief Executive of the Transport for the North, said:
“Northern has taken an operational decision to implement this interim plan. As the operator responsible for services, they believe it is essential to start to stabilise services.
“Our first priority is the passengers, they deserve a service on which they can rely. The voice of passengers and leaders in the North is clear, the level of disruption has been unacceptable and action taken must deliver improvements.
“We will continually monitor the situation over the coming days and expect to see sustained action from Northern to deliver change. Passenger confidence in our rail network must be restored.”
Transport for the North and the Department for Transport (acting as the Rail North Partnership) will be monitoring the implementation of the Recovery Plan.
