Significant changes to public transport in Greater Manchester

Monday 24th March 2025

Today marks the start of a single integrated public transport system in Greater Manchester, with contactless tap and go across trams and buses. A daily and weekly cap that is calculated for passengers means a more seamless and integrated way to get around.

Transport for the North welcomes these important changes which will help people to use public transport more easily and with a much simpler way to pay for their journeys. Transforming public transport that delivers an integrated, affordable and sustainable transport system is a key vision of our Strategic Transport Plan. The work that Greater Manchester has done to deliver these important changes to the Bee Network today is a fantastic example of what can be achieved in the North.

Transport for the North Deputy Chief Executive Katie Day said: “today marks a significant day for the Bee Network in Greater Manchester and for everyone travelling on buses and trams in the area. We applaud the significant efforts of everyone who has worked hard to deliver these changes that will deliver improved transport in the North.”

Transport for Greater Manchester has published information on today’s changes via it’s Bee Network website, with information on contactless tap and go, payments including the daily and weekly cap and information for children, young people, students and concessionary travel pass holders.
