The next instalment of #TfNTalks, the free online webinar series run by Transport for the North, will look at the future of roads and their importance as part of a sustainable, multimodal transport network.
Taking place on Friday 26 June at 1pm, the session is titled “The Future of Roads” and is chaired by Transport for the North’s Major Roads Director Peter Molyneux. He will be joined by panellists:
Together, they will tackle the key issues facing the current road network, including the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on travel behaviours and how the positives of reduced or different road use can be retained as lockdown restrictions continue to ease.
They will also look at the need for ongoing investment in the strategic road network, and how roads are an integral part of a sustainable, multimodal transport network. Decarbonisation, future technology, freight and accessibility are also on the agenda.
Peter Molyneux, Major Roads Director at Transport for the North, said: “We all use roads on a regular basis, whether as a passenger, driver, cyclist or pedestrian, and we rely on them for key emergency and freight services, so sustained investment in them is essential.
“In this session we’ll be looking at some of the key challenges and opportunities facing the road industry, including the impact of COVID-19, decarbonisation and mobility, and the importance of balancing the needs of different road users.”
