Celebrating culture and diversity is central to our community here at Transport for the North.
We’re passionate about promoting opportunities and respecting all those around us, which is why Pride Month is such an important occasion to mark amongst our team.
Pride Month is dedicated to celebrating LGBTQ+ groups all around the world.
Various events are held in towns and cities to recognise the influence of those people who identify with the communities.
June was chosen for the celebration to mark the Stonewall Riots, which took place in 1969.
It offers the chance to raise awareness of issues impacting the community, while in a pre-Coronavirus time, parties, festivals and parades would draw crowds of millions across the world.
Our Diversity Action Plan is based around four pillars that are aimed at creating a diverse workforce and inclusive environment.
We’re proud to have gained recognition as a Disability Confident Employer, a Living Wage Employer and were recently accepted as a “supporter” of the Greater Manchester Good Employer Charter.
Our Diversity Policy ensures employees are treated equally and fairly. We’re committed to providing equal opportunities and diversity in all our employment practices and provision of all our services.
We’re also committed to ensuring and promoting the equal treatment of all employees and service users.
We recognise that discrimination is not acceptable on any grounds. We seek to create a climate which is underpinned by the understanding of discrimination and oppression.
It is our mission to create an organisation committed to the highest levels of diversity – Transport for the North
Now more than ever we must stay true to building an inclusive collaborative organisation that is driven to succeed by drawing strength from our differences.
We’re focused to creating an environment where all employees can thrive, and we continue to work hard on making inclusion and diversity core attributes of our identity.
These themes are embedded in our employment and business practices across all our teams.
We’re also proud to have set up our The Diversity in Action group, which promotes diversity in our approaches, both internally and externally.
Taking action to promote and enhance diversity and inclusion has never been more important, as we have seen all too well recently that there is still much work to be done to tackle racism and other forms of prejudice across the world.
As an organisation we always strive to do the right thing and understand that in order to make a difference in our society and workplace, we must be committed to respecting equality and diversity, showing kindness, tackling discrimination and promoting inclusion.
This month, and always, we will ensure we support everyone in being themselves.
So how ever you’re marking Pride Month – we wish you a happy and safe celebration.
