Free #TfNTalks webinar to highlight decarbonisation plans for North of England

Thursday 17th June 2021

Transport for the North will bring together an expert panel to discuss the importance of cutting carbon emissions from surface transport and how everyone can respond to the public consultation.

A free webinar is taking place to highlight the North of England’s ambitious plans for cutting carbon emissions from surface transport.

Hosted by Transport for the North at 1pm on Wednesday 23 June, the #TfNTalks session will focus on the region’s draft Decarbonisation Strategy, which is currently out for public consultation.

Surface transport is the largest contributing sector to greenhouse gas emissions in the UK, accounting for 22% of all emissions in 2019, and as such the strategy sets a target of near-zero carbon emissions from surface transport by 2045 in the North of England.

TFNtalks Decarbonisation Strategy Consultation Tim Wood quote

Tim Wood, Interim Chief Executive at Transport for the North, said: “Reducing carbon across our region’s transport network is an essential part of tackling the climate emergency – one of the greatest challenges of our time. We’re thrilled to be consulting a strategy for the whole region that outlines how rapid progress can be made and how the North can lead the UK in slashing carbon emissions.

“We urge everyone to get involved in this vital work and provide their views to the consultation, helping to shape future transport networks that are not only efficient and reliable, but are sustainable too.”

Tickets to #TfNTalks are free and available here.
