The next instalment of #TfNTalks, the free online webinar series run by Transport for the North (TfN), will look at the importance of providing an accessible transport system that enables people to get around seamlessly and independently.
Taking place on Friday 19 March at 2pm, ‘Delivering an accessible transport system for the North’ is chaired by Stephen Brookes MBE, Rail Sector Champion, with panellists:
The event focuses on one of priorities identified by Transport for the North’s leaders, to make the region’s networks more sustainable and inclusive.
Caroline Young, Senior Project Manager in the Strategic Rail team at Transport for the North, said: “Transport is absolutely critical to social inclusion – it can be the difference between being able to independently get to work or travel around the North, or having to rely on others for support.
“There’s great strides being made to make public transport more accessible, with rail investment plans like Access for All funding, but there is so much more that needs to be done.
“Easy access to transport is central to our shared vision for a sustainable, inclusive, safe, and accessible transport system, helping to deliver a stronger, fairer economy. Restrictions around Covid-19 may have compounded feelings of isolation.
“As life returns to a degree of normality, passengers need to feel confident in returning to a public transport that is inclusive and accessible.”
