Northern leaders today reaffirm that the North must see HS2 and Northern Powerhouse Rail built in full
At its Board meeting today in Leeds, Transport for the North (TfN) reaffirmed its position that both HS2 and Northern Powerhouse Rail (NPR) projects are critical to the economy of the region.
The message from leaders from across the North of England is clear: build HS2 and NPR now. Any further delay will cost the national economy even more, and fail to address the poor connectivity that has held the North back for decades.
The meeting was also joined by the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, who backed the call by the region’s political and business leaders. He further added that: “The success of the North is crucial to London’s success.”
Transport for the North Chair, Lord McLoughlin, said: “The Northern leaders spoke with one voice today. We need HS2 and Northern Powerhouse Rail built in full if we are to realise the full potential of the North and to level up our national economy. Let us not delay.”
