The North’s vision is for a seamlessly interconnected mobility ecosystem, where all transport modes are effortlessly accessible to passengers in networks relevant to local markets.

Our Connected Mobility Strategy is a placed-based and user-centric strategy designed to reduce the duplicated cost and energy in connecting people to the things that matter to them across the North.

What is the Connected Mobility Strategy?

Across three core themes: the future of ticketing, data and infrastructure, and future mobility; the strategy structures how we facilitate the sharing of best practice, encourage collaboration between partners and unlock investment in more joined-up delivery of connected mobility.

The strategy defines 30 regional outcomes – some of which Transport for the North will own and others we will help support our partners in achieving – that together will improve passenger experiences across the North.

""The strategy builds on, and empowers, local successes and decision making across delivering more connected journeys. It's not about reinventing the wheel; instead, it's about helping the wheel move faster for passengers in the North.""

What is Connected Mobility?

Connected Mobility covers the delivery of smarter and more integrated transport networks, and the systems that seamlessly connect passengers to the places that matter to them across regions, modes, and technologies.

This includes payment and journey planning, integration of modes and routes across geographical and technological boundaries, and the underlying processes, data systems and structures that will enable it.

Integrated and Smart Travel

This work follows on from our Integrated and Smart Travel programme, but shifts the focus away from delivering ticketing to the North of England.

The Connected Mobility Strategy will instead build on developed areas of expertise to act as a space to share best practice more visibly and strategically alongside LTAs looking to achieve the same outcomes.
