A key priority for TfN is ensuring that investment addresses the extent to which access to transport – both in terms of availability and affordability – continues to be a barrier to individuals realising their potential.

Martin Tugwell, Chief Executive of Transport for the North, said: “TfN continues to use its evidence-based approach to make the case for strategic transport improvements across the whole of the North.

“That investment is essential if the North is to deliver inclusive and sustainable transformational economic growth. Investing in the North’s potential will rebalance the UK economy.

“The evidence is clear: poor transport infrastructure is holding back the North’s economic potential. Investing in that potential delivers benefits for our residents, our businesses, and our communities.

“By connecting the key economic areas of the North, we will drive growth, improve access to jobs, and ensure the North is a great place to live and invest.”

Lord McLoughlin, Chair of Transport for the North wrote to the new Prime Minister setting out the North’s urgent and immediate priorities.

With levelling up, and the needs of the North high on the national agenda, the region’s leaders are determined to ensure the North’s voice will be at the heart of any decision-making.
