With countryside, canals, coast, and towns – there’s much to be enjoyed across Lancashire. The local transport plan will shape the county's transport and travel over the next 10 years – helping to support economic growth and making the county’s roads safer.

National Roads Fund

We’ve worked with Lancashire County Council to submit a bid for funding for dualling the A582.

If supported by the National Roads Fund, this scheme would upgrade a section of the A582 to dual carriageway, improve junctions, and provide an off-road foot and cycleway.

The UK’s first section of motorway to open was the Preston Bypass, which came into use in 1958. It is now part of the M6.

Lancashire is home to both the largest and smallest towns in England – Bolton and Bashall Town.

The Lancaster Canal has the longest lock-free stretch of man-made waterway in the country. You can cruise for 41 miles without having to go through a lock.

Lancashire Day is held on 27th November ever year. It marks the day when Lancashire sent its first representatives to King Edward I’s ‘Model Parliament’ in 1295.

Scientist Richard Owen, who was born in Lancaster, created the word `dinosaur`.
