Warrington has a transport plan and vision to make the region a thriving, attractive, and well-connected place. The aim is to invest in key initiatives to make walking and cycling easier, and to increase the appeal of public transport.

Planned Transport Investment for Warrington

We have supported the investment in a new railway station at Warrington West, a £19million investment in a new bridge over the River Mersey, and a £21million investment in improvements to five major junctions.

Did you know?

The first IKEA store in Britain opened in Warrington in 1987.
Author Lewis Carroll was born in Daresbury. His influence is seen throughout Warrington, with a Tea Party sculpture in the town’s main square, and pubs called The Looking Glass and The Hatter.
Warrington Wolves rugby league team have never been relegated, making them the only club to have played in every season of the sport’s top division.
In World War II RAF Burtonwood was the largest US Air Force airfield outside of America.
Warrington embraced the Industrial Revolution and its most notable output was steel wire. Both the rugby league and football clubs have the nickname “The Wire”.
